l agree. They have won a few series back to back but one shouldnt forget that the victories came in their home soil. They need to prove the critics wrong by beating top sides away from India. Remember, India was always almost unbeatable at home. Nothing new.

On the flip side, SA havent lost a single tournament in 2008. They have beaten top sides like Australia & England away from home. They clearly deserve the mantle of No.1 at the moment.

Ganguly with his experience of international cricket cannot say anything wrong. l concur with his view. The moment you call India No.1, they would lose to Bangladesh, Jimbabwe and Kenya. It is a different matter altogether that they would beat Australia immediately after all those losses.

Without any doubt we can call India as No 1 Side. We are nowadays performing in all level let it be 20-20, one dayers or Test. With such a dominating and dedicated young team we can win any teams. Soon can expect the world cup to our crown.

Yea definitely. He is right and so are you. Basically its this that India needs to consistently keep winning if they really want to become the no.1 side. Besides l think there will be fierce competition from the South Africans.
And there maybe atleast 2-3 retirements coming in from the test side in another 2-3 years so the youngsters really got to buck up and atleast try to fill the shoes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.

There was a question some time back saying What do u have to say on Ian Chappel,s comments that India is a sure no.1 team in the world.This question was asked before the present Aus vs SA series started.
l answered India is a sure no.3 position at present,the no.1 position is a tussle between Aus & S.A, means it will depend on the result of the present series going on & it will take 2 or 3 yrs for India to reach no.1 position.My opinion was much before Ganguly gave his & l do agree with Ganguly is comments.

winning a Test in SA was good---here is where they need to improve,
they lost the remaining 2 Tests

loss to SL was 1-2 --against a powerful bowling attack
---showed lack of consistency as a team

NZ tour will be major challenge for India bcoz of the conditions there
India has not managed to WIN a test series or OD l series in NZ for a long time

Well there you are, one Indian who is prepared to face the truth. Of course l agree with him & l go by the ICC rankings, not what l wish to see. Australia are still on top, despite what some have said here, and until ICC revise their rankings, will stay there. l do not think India will get past S.Africa, they are just too good and have proved it by beating Australia in their own country.

Yes, l agree. We need a tri-nation series between India, Australia and South Africa to determine that.
