A desperate Nathan Bracken is eyeing to cash in on the void in Australia’s spin department to force his way back into the national side and now-a-days the left-arm pacer is busy fine-tuning his spin bowling skills in the nets, instead of swing.

“I’ve been practising them (spin) a fair bit. I’ve been bowling them at training but the hardest thing has been trying to get the chance to bowl them in a game,” said Bracken, who was earlier this year ranked the world’s No 1 one-day bowler.

Incidentally, during the last Sheffield Shield game against Tasmania, Bracken who took a match total of eight wickets playing for New South Wales, asked his skipper Dominic Thornely to allow him to bowl spin in the second innings.

“l said to Dom (Thornely) the Tasmanians would ‘go’ mel knew they’d wanna take me on and figured it might have brought us a wicket. He wanted to see how things went but, to his credit, Dom didn’t rule the idea out,” Bracken told the ‘Herald Sun’.

Although, he has been practising spin at the nets for quite sometime, Bracken admits having some problems in working out the pace of his tweakers.

“It’s been suggested l look at Colin ‘Funky’ Miller as an example. Funky bowled them at about 90 to 95 kilometres an hour. He had a fast bowler’s mentality because Colin would make sure the batsman couldn’t get down to him. l was bowling to a few of the younger guys the other day and one of them said during the session he’d just realised l didn’t turn the ball. He came down the wicket for the next one and it turned in a big wayBut l am still learning,” he said.

lol, This is a funny article! Bracken bowling spin, now thats what l want to see.

But on a serious note, Bracken has been the greatest OD l bowler for the last 2 years and its almost ridiculous that he is not in the Test team.

l thought he was good as a pace bowler.

How about this : spin in tests and pace in ODI's?

How much he would compete with the likes of Cason , Krezja and Hauritz is yet to be seen

He was out injured for a long time, and has just come back into the NSW side. The mind boggles about him bowling spin, but who knows, he may be just what we want!

Now this is news to me..Nathan bracken former fast bowler bowling spin..He was a good pace bowler.He should have worked on his pace and on different methods to become more effective,rather than taking to spin bowling to make a come back into the team..Another ANIL KUMBLE..!!!??? Any guesses?

It would be interesting to watch him leg spin on Spinning wicket and pace on seaming wicket.

l must admit that this is news to me. Why would he want to quit doing something he is so good at. Also Australia needs specialised spinners and l doubt Bracken can fulfill the role.

l thought he was being considered for the OD l team against New Zealand, now that he has recovered from his injuries. So l do not think he will need to cash in on the absence of a good spinner to get back into team.

It will a great move on the part of Bracken to breaking in the Australian team who is woefully short of spin bowlers.

WoW!1..This has really surprised me,Bracken has a full timepossy in OD l is and 20/20,why would he want to stuff up his position in those teams to get a test spot?.Goes to show you how desperate he is to re-gain a test spot though. l am disapointed,i really like his pace bowling.Oh well each to their own,good luck to him l hope he does well.
