Ever since the retirement of Gilly, Warne and McGrath the slump was inevitable, even though the Aussie selectors said how difficult it was for some players to get a foot in the team, because of the quality of the squad. Downhill for the next 12 months.

l think they have relied on the same people for too long and it means the young talent is under developed- and l think losing to Zimbabwe was a warning sign. l think also a big part of the heart of the team went with McGrath and Warnie. The team reminds me of my old dog- he is a nice old chap but he is past his glory days.

l think Danikajj said it all. The fire in the belly has left our team. Do not worry as it happened to the West Indies as well. We can and will bounce back. Maybe it is time to shovel a few of the selectors into a retirement home.

l would not take too much notice of T20 games. The losing slump really started when we had three star players retire at the same time. Everyone took note of this but did not look that the batting line up was also getting a bit grey. The batsmen were held in the side hoping that they would come good but it has not happened. Hayden & Symonds should have both gone earlier & Hussey is not looking too crash hot either.

MBTM, if the Kiwis win against India l suppose that will also be Sydney is fault.

After Ricky took over Australia was not climbing, they were sliding. the ashes loss, NZ chasing huge scores and winning, SA chasing the record total etc. The final nails were hammered by India, first at Perth, their fortress and then at the BG series. After wards they were humiliated in India, and now SA has polished them off.

It could be a mix of a lot of things.
1. The retirement of legendary players like Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Langer, Martyn, etc. And the lack of players to replace them.
2. The stepping down of John Buchanan as the coach of Australian cricket team
3. The Sydney Affair.

The retirement of Warney & Mcgrath came in January of 2007 & Australia played only 3 tests matches against Sri Lanka at home (and won all three) before they faced off India late that year. They won the first two. First of which was pretty convincing win (The absence of Warne & McGrath was not a problem, then) & the second one turned into a nasty affair, which may have affected the Australians psychologically. And the real slump started from there. They lost the next match at their so-called fort, Perth & drew the next match at Adelaide. They lost the air of superiority which they enjoyed over their rivals.

In between the two BG trophies they played only West Indies (3 test match series, won 2-0 by Australia). But tour to India proved a stiffer one & they lost 2-0. They managed to win against a lacklustre New Zealand team. But South Africa really exposed that Australia is no more what they used to be.

For T20 Australia went without any preparation & were haughty thinking that they would phoo, phoo the tournament & come out with clear winners.

Zimbabwe handed them the bitter fruit. Once bitten, instead of becoming twice shy, they continued their way without learning any lesson or taking any corrective methods. Instead one after the other started ranting & let out gutter from their mouth. That is to say, they spoke irrelevant things for longer duration than spending their time in the practice field or on the drawing board analysing & charting out proper plan.

Morally they had lost at Sydney 2007 to India (thanks S.., M. & Mi..), the result is reading the other way. After that they could never beat at Perth or in the World Series or when they toured ''some third world'' country. Now they r becoming bunny bag for one & sundry to take pot shots.

when Mcgrath,Warne,Langer,Martyn Retired.Now with this Lee,Symonds & Hayden is not in the form. That is Hurting them badly.

They lost their momentum with the loss of series against India in 2008-2009.
