Well. Ponting is not the best captain I've seen, he seems to crumble under pressure. On the other hand, Graeme Smith is arguably the best captain at the moment.

l think Ponting should be relieved off captaincy, it will allow him to concentrate on his batting too, he is been out of form for quite some time. Australia have a replacement in Clarke.

No exactly. Ponting is getting stale and has lost some really good players. He has not been playing to expectations. A few others have not played very well too.

Ponting is a great batsman, but great batsmen rarely are great leaders. People make too much of his record sequence of victories, but l think they had more to do with the great bowlers he had at his disposal. Sachin, Lara, Ponting- great batsmen but average leaders.
The ideally suited person for captaincy is either Brett Lee or Pups.

All through his captaincy, Ponting has been surrounded by world class players at the top of their form- Shane, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden etc., & during that time he was one of the best batsmen in the world. His team scored at 4+ per over without a game plan, & the hardest decisions he had to make when fielding was whether to give the ball to Shane or Glen.

Now he does not have that talent to call on, & with his own form dipping, he seems to be unable to accept that some of the side r not to the standard he has come to expect. You can see this in his body language- he seems to have little faith in some of the players which in turn affects those players.

Great players do not always make great captains (though Imran is an exception), & l would not be surprised if he retires before he- or Smith- remove him

l do not see it as a bad captaincy thing at all.
If he had the players who could do the job that was required, then there would not be an issue. Australia can not call themselves the No1 side if they can not take 20 wickets against good sides.
