Mitchell Johnson was named man of the match for his match haul of 9-69 plus a valuable 31 with the bat in Australia is second innings..

Mitchell finished with 5-39 off 17.3 overs in the 2nd innings,also in the 1st innings he took 4/30 finishing with nine wickets for the match to challenge Simon Katich (131 not out) for man-of-the-match honours.

Mitchell has moved his overall wicket tally to 56 from 14 Tests at 30.50 and is the second most successful Australian bowler of 2008.

His 45 wickets at 31.57 from 11 Tests sit just behind Brett Lee (47 at 31.14 from 11).
Not too far behind Brett at all..

l think it must have been a close call between him and katich. if katich had done better in the first innings he would have got it. but l think 9 wickets for the match and a decent job of staying in made it well deserved.

if Johnson can swing the ball like he did in this match then he COULD be our next Alan Davidson!

l reckon Johnson was the deserved MOM as Katich did fail in the first innings while Johnson fired in both of them!

That was amazing bowling from Mitch. He truly deserved the Man of the Match. Of course Katich is century put us back in the track after losing quick wickets. But Johnson is 4 wickets in the first innings made sure we wo not lose this one.

Right now Johnson is swinging the ball better than Lee. But l think it is just a form issue with Binga and he will soon return to form. But what an amazing job Johnson did to compensate for that.

hes a good bowler and has improved a hell off alot since a year ago

when his confidence was low, and im very impressed with his pace hes

Mitchell is a great bowler in the making. He has the ability to get awkward bounce to surprise the batsmen, & more than decent pace.

Regarding Man of the match award, he shaded Katich because of his valuable contribution with the bat. It was pretty fair, I'd say. But l really thought Katich would get it, he deserved the honor.

Comparing him with Lee is going a bit too far, he is only started his career, Lee is a proven performer. l believe he (Lee) is not in his real self because of problem with his personal (married) life, he went thru a lot of crap.

Mitch deserved the MOM. However to be objective - it was his style of pitch. He still needs to be more consistent but he bowls some great deliveries amongst the not so great ones. He seems like a really nice guy as well, and welcome to the WA side by the way.does not seem like we will see him play for us much though.lol

May be it'd have gone to Katchit, but considering everything Johnson was the right choice; he is an excellent bowler, he proved that in India too; one day he'd be the spearhead of Australian cricket. Left handers have this knack- Wasim, Vaas, Zaheer etc

pretty decent, but l think he is a different bowler to brett lee. at best his pace is proberly 5k slower, and he has an unorthodox grip for as faster bowler as he is .practice and training could see him up there thouhg.atm brett lee is physically ill (or recovering) and somewere else personally.thats why he is a little out of form.

Great performance from Mitchell. What else can l say? He along with Simon & Clarke basically won the match for us without much help from anybody else. Although it was a bowling pitch, Mitchell probably deserved it. A 9-fer in a match is no small deal after all. Is it possible to share a MOM award? That would have been nice.

As for Johnson becoming as good as Brett, probably yes in a few years time. Although, as far as my observation goes Binga is more potent & sharper than Mitch when he is at his best. Its hard to beat Lee is inswinging yorkers when he is on a roll. One day Mitch will lead the bowling attack & is bound to become as good as Brett. Dont compare the season records just yet. We all know brett is going through a time atm.

Yes Mitchell johnson will be gr8 bowler for aussie. He deserve MOM. Yes l reckon He will be good as Lee. l reckon that he will get 450 + wicket when he retire.

It is possible Simon Katich asked for Mitchell Johnson to received Man of the Match. Katcih has the glory of the test century & remaining not out. Michael Clarke is innings went forgotten. Had it been three figures, he might have been a contender. It was a VERY valuable innings as Katich is was. This why they probably went for Johnson. Yes, he always bowls well The Gabba. He has a match winning history there. Nine wickets is really good. It is terrific. His batting was also wonderful to watch. He was very classy. Making 31 runs which was the second highest score deserved a reward. l think he also hit the only six for the Aussies. Katich is a happy man. He has his place in the side & the centuries keep coming. Of course he is going to bat well. He is been making all his runs on Australian pitches. He is paid to do this & u can look forward to more from his all summer.

Johnson is certainly showing promise to be the next Brett Lee. The work ethic & determination r obviously there, & experience can do wonders for any cricketer. l think he will, in time, go on to be one of the great bowlers of all time.

l think it was a fair call to award Johnson mam of the match - he delivered the goods in BOTH innings. Katich had one very good innings & one average innings.

Edit: 56 wickets from 14 tests - that is exactly 4 wickets per match. Brett Lee is going at 4.11 wickets per test, (300 from 73) so on that count there is not much between them, & it is only early days in Johnson is career.
