Can a player hit the ball for eight runs?
l just saw a YouTube video: Afridi hitting eight runs on one ball - so l wondered. See http://youtube.com/watch?v=zyohnDsjCFE

As far as my knowledge goes, maximum 7 runs can be scored of a delivery.

It can be a six of a no-ball.
or
The batsman may hit a ball & take three runs, then an overthrow by the fielder may go to the boundary to give a total of 7 runs.

Edit: Scoring 8 runs is possible in Hong-Kong sixes. A six of a no-ball will get you 8 there.

yes this is possible
if there is a no ball and bats man takes 3 run and then there is a over throw for 4 runs
it makes it 8
so it is possible

It was a charity match and they can make their own rules. In this case, if the batsman can hit the ball into second tier of stands, 8 runs will be awarded. It is not possible in real cricket.
